Web design and SEO in Rock Island, Illinois

WestRed Digital, a two-person company based in Silvis, Illinois, designs websites and handles SEO for businesses in Rock Island and the rest of the Quad Cities. Marketing a Rock Island business comes with its own quirks, starting with downtown's new name.

Who we are

Caleb Westerman builds our websites and does the SEO. He has 7+ years as a senior SEO engineer at a digital marketing agency, and his math degree is from Augustana College, so Rock Island isn't new ground for him. Brock Reddish handles sales. He's the one you'll talk to first.

We're based in Silvis, not Rock Island, but we'll meet you at your business. For Rock Island businesses, WestRed's main services are website design and SEO. We also manage Google Business Profiles, run Google Ads (pay-per-click) and Facebook and Instagram ads, and handle social media and email campaigns when those would help. We're new (we started in 2026), so we don't have clients or references to point you to yet. Judge us on the free review instead.

The District is now Downtown Rock Island

In September 2025, Rock Island's city council approved renaming "The District" to "Downtown Rock Island," KWQC reported. The city worked on the new name with the Quad Cities Chamber and the Rock Island Downtown Alliance.

If you're downtown, check these places for the old name:

  • Your website. The About page, contact page, footer and page titles.
  • Your Google Business Profile. Usually the description.
  • Facebook and Instagram. Your bio and About section.
  • Yelp and other directories. Yelp now licenses its business information to OpenAI (a deal Yelp announced in February 2026), so an old Yelp listing can show up in ChatGPT.

Switch them to Downtown Rock Island. Mentioning the old name once, as in "Downtown Rock Island (formerly The District)," helps people who still use it. Just don't add either name to your business name on Google. Google's guidelines say unnecessary information there "isn't permitted, and could result in the suspension of your Business Profile." Consistent details like these are a core part of local SEO.

Say which Rock Island you mean

Google Ads' list of target locations includes a Rock Island in Tennessee, and when we searched "rock island web design" in October 2026, without setting a location, some results were about other places called Rock Island.

So always add the state. Use "Rock Island, Illinois" or "Rock Island, IL" in your page titles and your Google profile's description. If you publish a street address, give it in full, ZIP included, in your site's structured data (code that tells search engines who and where you are).

Pay-per-click (PPC) ads, where you pay each time someone clicks, need the same care: pick Rock Island, Illinois by name, or target ZIP 61201, Illinois (Google Ads also lists a 61201 in Mexico), or a radius around you. It's one of the first settings we check in a Google Ads account.

What's changing in Rock Island

At its January 2026 State of the City address, the city reported:

  • a finished $9 million Rebuild Downtown Rock Island project
  • nine business openings or expansions
  • nine development agreements worth nearly $60 million
  • approval of a River Edge Redevelopment Zone
  • $24.5 million in federal grant funds for the 11th Street/US 67 reconstruction

If you're opening or expanding, whether under one of those development agreements or in the new River Edge zone, plan the website and Google profile with the build-out, not after the ribbon cutting. If you're on 11th Street, update both if construction reaches your block, so customers know how to get in. And if the downtown rebuild changed how your block looks, replace the old photos on your Google profile.

The Arsenal and the city's other big draws

Rock Island Arsenal had 5,300 civilian workers and almost 1,300 active and reserve military, KWQC reported in May 2025. Augustana College, Modern Woodmen of America, Bally's Quad Cities and UnityPoint Health-Trinity Rock Island add students, staff, visitors and patients' families. If they're your customers, your Google profile should answer what they'd check first: how close you are and when you're open.

The Arsenal itself is changing. In June 2026, the Army held a ceremony there to case Joint Munitions Command's colors, and the command's work is being folded into Army Sustainment Command, the Army reported. If Arsenal workers are a big share of your customers, keep an eye on your numbers. When we manage your profile, our monthly report shows its calls, website clicks and direction requests.

Rock Island or the whole metro

Rock Island had 36,225 people in the Census Bureau's 2025 estimate, a little under a tenth of the 380,452 in the Davenport-Moline-Rock Island metro area. The rest live elsewhere in the metro, in Iowa and Illinois.

So pick the area you're really selling to. A lunch spot near Augustana may only need a few miles; a contractor who'll drive to Bettendorf needs both sides of the river. That sets your ad targeting, your Google service area if you travel to customers, and which pages your site needs. More on the metro: Quad Cities digital marketing.

Where we'd start

  1. Find every "The District"

We check your site, Google Business Profile and other listings for the old name and stale details, then fix them.

  2. Pin down the Illinois Rock Island

We search your trade plus "Rock Island," with and without the state, on Google and in Maps. Then your page titles, profile description and structured data get "Illinois," and every location in your ad settings has to say Illinois.

  3. Decide whether to reach the Arsenal

Google Ads lists Rock Island Arsenal as a location of its own. If the people who work there are your customers, we add it to your targeting.

Send us your site

Email your website address and a sentence about your business to hello@westreddigital.com, or use the contact form, and we'll reply within one business day. If you're downtown, say so, and we'll look for "The District" while we're at it. The review is free, and you'll get a plan and a price in writing before any work starts.

Questions

Common questions

Should my business still say it's in The District?

No. Rock Island's city council approved renaming The District to Downtown Rock Island in September 2025, so use the new name on your website, your Google Business Profile and your other listings. Mentioning the old name once, for customers who still use it, is fine. Just don't add either name to your business name on Google, which Google's guidelines don't allow.

Can my Google Ads reach people who work at Rock Island Arsenal?

Yes. Google Ads lists Rock Island Arsenal as its own location, apart from Rock Island, Illinois. If Arsenal workers are your customers, add it to your ad targeting or use a radius around your business. While you're in that setting, make sure each location you pick says Illinois, because Google Ads also lists a Rock Island in Tennessee.

What does the Rock Island Downtown Alliance do for downtown businesses?

The Rock Island Downtown Alliance launched in October 2023. Property owners in the downtown special service area pay an extra property tax to fund it. At launch, WVIK reported, it announced capital improvement grants for downtown business and building owners, a Clean and Safe program, and holiday promotions meant to boost small businesses' sales and visibility. It was also part of the partnership behind the Downtown Rock Island name, and the city's January 2026 State of the City address mentioned a photo contest the city ran with it to promote the new Rock Island block letters. If you're downtown, ask what it's running now. Anything it promotes gives you something real to post about.

Which Rock Island road projects should businesses plan around?

Two came up in Rock Island's January 2026 State of the City address: the 11th Street/US 67 reconstruction, backed by $24.5 million in federal grant funds, and a roundabout at Rock Island Parkway and 35th Street West, backed by $1.7 million in federal funding. If your business is on either road and the work changes your hours or how customers get in, update your Google Business Profile and your website the same day.
